Most people spend a lot of time thinking about themselves.
This “interior conversation” we have with ourselves often tends to be very selfish.
Yet there is another sort of “interior life” that is extremely important. The interior conversation we have with God is one of the most important things we can do.
This interior life is the one thing necessary. And its the one thing we tend to neglect.
It’s not enough just to be “saved”. It’s not enough just to “accept Jesus Christ as your personal savior”. Jesus commands his followers to strive for perfection. “But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.” (Mt 5:48) This point is echoed in the Apocalypse, “Nothing unclean will enter the presence of God in heaven.” (Rev. 21:27).
There will only be saints in Heaven and we need to rid ourselves of all of our vices and sins. (The obligation here is traditionally understood that we must at least strive for perfection, not necessarily attain it in this life. This is where the purgation of venial sins in the next life comes in.)
In any case, we need to make use of the means of grace God has given us in order to do this.
So instead of worrying about the worldly things, let’s focus on the true interior life.
In this episode of Spiritual Combat, we’ll discuss this necessity of the interior life.http://classicaltheist.s3.amazonaws.com/TheNecessityOfTheInteriorLife.mp3
