If you spend any time at all talking about Jesus to unbelievers, you will certainly run in to the objection that the story of Jesus is just a rehashed version of pagan mythology. Therefore, they will conclude, Jesus is not a historical person.
In fact, in my experience, this is one of the most common objections that the typical skeptic “on the street” will use in an attempt to debunk Christianity.
This linking of Jesus to pagan mythology is nothing new. It was somewhat fashionable in the 19th century and suggested by some liberal scholars.
But hardly anyone in academia takes this view seriously any more.
